Lincoln Park Few Chicagoans are aware of this, but the place that now gives home to the Lincoln Park Zoo, Shakespeare Garden and the Lincoln Park Conservatory was once a cemetery, which was relocated to Graceland and Rosehill during the 1860s. In the 140 years since—and especially the last thirty—the park has come to represent a watery, green respite from city life, as well as home to the free-of-charge Lincoln Park Zoo. For those less into wildlife and more into flora and fauna, Shakespeare Garden (just to the north of the zoo’s entrance) and the Conservatory (housed in large Victorian greenhouse) offer quiet walks through green-scented air. Even more integral to the city are the dozens of walking and bicycle paths, which lends the population of Lincoln Park (the neighborhood) a free reign to exercise.
