Margie’s Candies
Founded in 1921, Margie’s Candies is a throwback to the old-fashioned ice-cream parlor, a not-so-gentle blend of interior kitsch (china dolls, tableside jukeboxes, ancient brown booths) and obscene amounts of ice cream. Though Margie’s serves regular food, four pages of their menu are devoted to ice-cream specialties, from your basic ice-cream cone to the World’s Largest Sundae (at least a full half-gallon of ice cream). During weekend nights in summer, Margie’s becomes the hotspot at Milwaukee and Western, drawing a crowd large enough to force hour-long waits. Once you’ve gorged on even one of their sundaes, you’ll know why.
