The Hideout
Who could’ve guessed that this little hole-in-the-wall tucked away neatly in one of the city’s industrial landscapes would go on to secure one of the city’s most obsessive legion of fans? The word “friendly” goes a long way, and there simply is no more friendly music venue in Chicago, maybe in the world. Co-owners Tim and Katie Tuten, along with twin brothers Mike and Jim Hinchsliff, run the bar with a gentle hand, and their genuine, no-BS personalities rub off on the staff and patrons. Though the Hideout made its name among the alternative country crowd, the Tutens have expanded their booking to include all kinds of music, and no matter what’s playing, everyone’s invited. Music industry types are already accustomed to the Hideout’s annual barbecue at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas; Hideout gives Chicago a taste of the same every year with its annual Block Party, which has, in six short years, come to signify the official end of summer.
