The Lakefront
It defines and shapes us. It runs the length of the city from south to north. Proximity to Lake Michigan, in fact, was the reason Native Americans originally settled the area, and now it represents both beginning and end to Chicago. From the lagoons at Jackson Park to Promontory Point to Northerly Island and the Museum Campus, its heart beats on the South Side. From Grant and Lincoln Park to North Avenue Beach to Belmont Harbor and Melrose beach, its heart beats on the North Side. And then there’s that skyline, the Loop along the lake, the picturesque monoliths of steel and concrete that are as definably Midwestern as corn and cows. Without it, we are nothing. Without it, we are Indianapolis.
