Joe Swanberg
Twenty-six year old director Joe Swanberg, whose third feature, the charming, shaggy-pixie tale “Hannah Takes The Stairs,” plays Siskel in October, via indie big IFC, persists in making movies he wants with the friends he has. There’s a second series of sexy web serial “Young American Bodies” at Nerve (and youngamericanbodies.com), and with fourth feature “Nights and Weekends” in the can, he’s ready to shoot another. (Second feature “LOL” is the debut DVD of a deluxe new indie DVD label called Benten Films.) Whether you slot his amiable, ambling work with that of his peers who’ve been roped under the detestable moniker of “mumblecore” or recognize a sly, even-tempered, idiosyncratic sensibility in the making, you have to admire Swanberg’s old-fashioned Chicago-style work ethic.
