Lumen
From Abe Froman to atypical lounge. Three neighborhood high-school chums decided to open up their first nightlife venture in a former meatpacking factory on Fulton. Low-slung lounge seating, frosted-glass exteriors and a dazzling programmed multi-chromatic LED light installation in the ceiling make Lumen an interesting destination on its own. A lot of other “concept” clubs and lounges have opened in Chicago’s cluttered nightlife scene, but what sets Lumen apart is it’s insistence on matching it’s smart interior with similarly smart beats behind the booth. Selections vary depending on the night, but sleek techno and nu-disco have found a regular home here, and the city’s top locals have enjoyed bringing underground sounds to an atypically comfortable space. Is there another way we can say that the future is looking bright for Lumen?
