Don’t hold your breath waiting to see our new president reconciled with his preacher and mentor—publicly at least—but the reverend needs a pulpit. Not only is he a military veteran, a highly educated author and a successful “entrepreneur,” having built Trinity United Church of Christ from near-extinction to a thriving membership of more than 8,500, but he’s been an influence over the years on the intellectual and spiritual development of our new leader. So just as MSNBC uses the-ultra-right-wing-and-holder-of-offensive-views-on-race Pat Buchanan as a lively foil to its left-of-center hosts, so too might Fox retain a modicum of relevance in its coming years in the wilderness by offsetting the Hannitys, Colmes and O’Reillys with the rapier intellect of Reverend Wright. Hell, we might even watch that one.
