Broke Hipster
We’d like to think it’s just a sign of the times, but as long as there’ve been hipsters, they’ve been broke. It just takes so much time and energy to look so precisely disaffected, who has time for a serious career? James Villalpando and HiLary Rawk might be on to something with Broke Hipster, a tipster service for “food, drinks and culture on the cheap.” While the Web site’s a little visually cacophonous for our taste, their twitstream flows with temptation. “Free tequila for 3 hours tonight!” There goes another night polishing up the resume. “Free 45 minute Facials at Macy’s Monday -” Great idea. Too bad it was before the tequila. Before long, you’ll be spending so much time chasing down free cocktails, free buffets and free yoga classes all over town, it might even start to feel like a job. Tell mom that one.
