The Spire
The corkscrew-shaped 150-story tower on Chicago’s lakefront, designed by world-renowned Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, is the stuff of fantasy, the type of building that seems possible only in science fiction. And we’re so close to seeing the reality. The hole is dug for the foundation, the penthouse has been sold to Beanie Baby founder Ty Warner. But with the real estate market crashing, the project has stopped in its tracks, and the architect has sued the developer. But this is one nightmare we hope turns out to be a dream.
