Scrabble for Cheaters
On December 5 creative wordsmiths will meet up at 826CHI’s Boring Store for its annual Scrabble tournament with a dishonest twist. Players collect pledges and buy cheats like the “Swap” (trade out a letter) and the “Spurn” (reject an opponent’s word for no reason). As every swindler knows, cheats don’t come cheap: the costliest, the “Webster” (invent a word) comes with a $500 price tag. For once, though, despicable behavior has its benefits: all proceeds from the tournament help fund the programs at the writing center at 826CHI.
