Its divisiveness
The towering, bodiless eyeball on State Street was made for fun and spectacle, like a bizarre roadside attraction plopped into the Loop. But the best thing about Tasset’s monstrosity was its ability to divide its audience into fans and detractors. Some loved its oversized dumb gaze, while others noted Tasset’s slackening of his tight conceptual practice. Either way, it sparked healthy discussion about public sculpture.

Audience choice:
That it’s temporary/gone
Others that were mentioned a few times, amused us or seemed especially weird:
“Hearing everyone call it The Crackhead Sculpture”
“How it cries when it’s raining”
“When it finally breaks off, rolls down State Street, and doesn’t stop until it demolishes Block 37, smooshing tourists along the way”
