Chicago Alternative Comics Expo (CAKE)
This past year marked the inaugural Chicago Alternative Comics Expo, a festival in support of independent comics. Chicago has seen a growing interest in self-published and indie comics, making CAKE an ideal outlet for artists and fans alike. More than a hundred artists, writers and illustrators showcased their work during the two-day exhibition, including notable Chicago creators Paul Hornschemeier, Jeffrey Brown, and Lilli Carré. The expo was supplemented by workshops and lectures with topics on fine art, woman artists and creative processes. Events like this foster new talent while celebrating the wealth of work from Chicago’s comics community.
