Documenta13 in Kassel, Germany
Every five years in a small German town called Kassel, hundreds of artists participate in the major international art exhibition called Documenta. This year (the thirteenth edition), an unprecedented number of local artists and writers presented their work, including Theaster Gates, John Preus, Brian Holmes, David Nirenberg and Jane Taylor, Claire Pentecost, Michael Rakowitz, Deborah Adams Doering and Lori Waxman. The exhibition is known for commissioning new works; with a two-year lead time for most contributions, the Chicagoans represented with some of their most ambitious projects to date.
