Sunday Salon
Booze and literary reading series have a venerable history, of course, but the best newest addition to the subcult is the Sunday Salon series, taking place the last Sunday of every month in the spacious back room of Lakeview’s Black Rock Bar. Founded by Queens-based New School grad Nita Noveno, the series is conducted in New York, Nairobi and has had a presence in Chicago for two years. Hosting the likes of Chicago mainstays such as Alex Shakar and Sandi Wisenberg, SS has threaded its way into the tapestry of the city’s literary life.
