Energy Use Benchmarking Ordinance
To meet Chicago’s Sustainability 2015 goal of a five-percent improvement in energy efficiency, Mayor Emanuel announced the Energy Use Benchmarking Ordinance. This will require the city’s largest buildings to benchmark their energy use beginning in 2014. The Retrofit Chicago program has already started doing this within fourteen buildings, but resistance has come from everyone from condo boards to alderman citing the high cost of capital improvements and manpower to begin tracking data.
