Pork Shoppe’s smoke exhaust fan
Head any direction in Chicago and you’re bound to smell something foul. Manage to make it far enough west on Belmont enduring sewage, car exhaust and eventually the river along the way, and you are rewarded with the delicious scent of slow-smoked pulled-pork decadence. The entire Belmont/California/Elston intersection seems edible, vehicles resemble giant pigs, stop signs look like barbecue-slathered ribs, bikers are rump roast on the go. Follow your nose to the Pork Shoppe and the spell concludes with a meal so satisfying your senses will be succulently stifled for the newly redolent ride home.
