Second City
Whether you’re looking for a place to take your out-of-town friends to for an impressive night of comedy or just looking to get your own laugh on, Second City, a Chicago stalwart since 1959, is sure to have something on some stage that fits the bill. Currently there’s “Let Them Eat Chaos” on their main stage, “What the Tour Guide Didn’t Tell You” and a string of comedians in the UP Comedy Club and “A Clown Car Named Desire” (one of the funniest things we’ve seen in years) on their e.t.c. stage. All this and we’re not even counting the string of smaller sketch and improv shows constantly running in Donny’s Skybox, their training space. And you may recall that over the summer Second City teamed up with a little operation called Lyric Opera to bring a solid month-long run of their highly acclaimed “Second City Guide to the Opera” revue to the Civic Opera House. Highbrow, lowbrow and everything in between—these guys have you covered.
