Greg Norman at Electrical Audio Studios
Popular imagination is transfixed by producers like George Martin and Phil Spector, not by sound engineers. These are the guys who actually place the microphones, run the cables, adjust the gain, hit the record button. The nitty-gritty technical, engineering aspects of the craft are celebrated even less, but tending to the equipment, knowing its circuitry, getting used to the smell of solder; all this work is crucial for a studio’s functionality. Greg Norman is Steve Albini’s resident wizard at Electrical in this regard, though his work with Guided By Voices, Mclusky, Magnolia Electric Co., and Rob Mazurek is equally monumental.
