Sebastian Black and India Donaldson, Queer Thoughts
Hanging handmade garment-sculptures on a clothes rack in what used to be a closet at this Pilsen apartment gallery was the first savvy move in the most fiercely elegant (and quirkily funny) exhibition we’ve seen come out of Chicago’s alternative gallery culture all year. The duo’s knockoff brand Authentix was represented with blushing minimalist couture alongside pungent potpourri and a sweet cartoon sketch of the two of them chasing down their coat artwork that had come alive. Complex questions about taste and value abounded in a cleanly sparse installation.
