Let’s see: do we choose one of the leading liberals in Congress, a notable opponent of Bush’s Iraq invasion and the chief architect of the DREAM Act, among other things? Further, do we choose one of the most powerful leaders in Washington, the Senate Majority Whip, or do we pick another one-percenter, a rich conservative whose political history has been so repulsive to some of us that we refuse to patronize his namesake ice-cream shops, which we hear are quite delicious? Apparently Jim Oberweis is getting the memo late that the tea party is over, as he just announced a remarkable reversal in favor of gay marriage late in the election cycle. Progress, yes, but not enough for us to drink the milkshake.
