Ryan Kenealy has always been a “best-kept” secret among many in the Chicago literary community, and so it’s somewhat of a shame that it has taken so long for Kenealy’s first book to come out, while simultaneously regretful that we can no longer keep him all to ourselves. Kenealy’s voice in “Animals In Peril” is roundly and succinctly the voice you hear in your head when in conversation with this gifted observer of the Midwest, one of conscience and of characters struggling to understand others, and themselves. Big kudos to Curbside Splendor for introducing him to the world.
