A year later, Chicago’s best-loved backyard art hub is finally getting a patch job after DeGiulio plowed a car into it as an art project. The car was purchased with the profit DeGiulio made off of selling a Michelle Grabner painting she’d been given as a gift; along with running the Suburban with her husband, Grabner is also one of DeGiulio’s mentors. These personal and professional relationships frame DeGiulio’s violent gesture that was built out of art world systems of power and exchange.
