Shhh… It’s a secret
An unscientific survey of a couple dozen women with their own sense of style in shoes outside of passing fashion elicited responses ranging from the high end of Ikram, Barneys and Florodora to the middle ground of City Soles or Akira. (There was also the pleasing vignette one woman told of watching an older man doting on his younger girlfriend at Macy’s one morning at 10:10am, encouraging her to try on more and more, in which case the best place to buy is where someone’s buying for you.) But down to every well-shod shoe enthusiast, asked about a particular favorite, whether not-quite-comfortable or worn-in from years of soleful love, the eventual answer was: it’s down the block, I can tell you, don’t print the name. Sh. Shhh! It’s around the corner, my friend has this boutique. Or surprisingly, any number of thrift stores a woman would find lucky, and revel unabashed serendipity. If the shoe fits…
