Shelly’s Loan & Jewelry Company
Remember Ray Charles and a cast of thousands dancing to “Shake a Tail Feather,” under the Green Line in the “Blues Brothers”? Well, “Ray’s Music Exchange” was, and still is, Shelly’s Loan & Jewelry Company. Yes, Chez Paul is gone. So too are Maxwell Street, the SROs in Chicago’s South Loop and the unofficial crew hangout, US Blues in Old Town. But Shelly’s, in business since 1946, still sells guitars and keyboards, and still lets you know you can “get cash in a flash.”
