The new Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier
Chicago holds its landmarks dear. Until June 1995, Chicago hadn’t had a Ferris Wheel since the 1893 World’s Fair. The main attraction that revitalized Navy Pier put on the brakes this September to make way for a replacement planned for next summer. Standing close to fifty feet taller than its predecessor, our new Wheel will include larger gondolas for more seating, but will probably still play Sinatra’s “My Kind of Town” ad nauseam. The ride’s duration will increase, as will the amount of times you can go around. It plans to reopen in 2016 to coincide with the Pier’s centennial.
