Separate from, but related to, the popular sister event that takes place just a short distance up north, the non-fire New Moon Jam operates on the same principle of athleticism, but focuses on object manipulation, and glow devices in particular, including hula hoops and other like instruments. There’s also a drum and dance circle, but the event actually takes place out on the rocks and sand alongside Montrose Beach. While it draws a much smaller crowd, that crowd tends toward a more laid-back, experimental approach to community and dance that, while not necessarily as family-friendly as the Full Moon Jam, is distinctly more socially intimate.
