Chicago Human Rhythm Project’s “Stomping Grounds”
Many of us moved to Chicago to have access to arts and culture, but to get the really good free stuff, we usually have to wait till summer and head down to the Loop. Last spring Chicago Human Rhythm Project pulled together five companies, each from a different dance tradition, to host one another in a series of free performances held at their respective home bases across the North, West and South Sides. Irish step dance, West African dance, American tap dance, Mexican dance and Spanish dance splashed five different stages with bright colors and pounding feet. Few other performances have so joyfully celebrated the rich cultural diversity of the city while cross-pollinating audiences and neighborhoods.
