Dramaturgy + Contemporary Dancemaking at High Concept Labs
Among the various conferences, workshops and topical panels surrounding developments in contemporary improvisational dance practices, fewer were more engaging than this May’s discussions, co-organized by the Chicago Dancemakers Forum and hosted at High Concept Labs, on the increasingly necessary role of dramaturgy in dance. Simultaneously a support to the choreographic process, and able to infuse influences completely unrelated to it, the infusions of dramaturgical work in improvisational and Modern dance provided profoundly compelling discussions on the future of the form.
