Ready to be pleased if not knocked out, we ordered pistachio gelato at Connie’s in the Viagra Triangle. As Italians, our standards are pretty high for this sort of thing, but man, what a surprise! This was the best pistachio we’ve tasted, and that’s including versions enjoyed in Florence. “It’s from a local lady who makes it at home,” our server offered, and that might be true, but whatever, this was pistachio gelato that tasted, amazingly and uncharacteristically, like the nut itself. The “local lady” probably roasted the nuts, because the flavor was intense and nutty; superb.
