The Red Lion
The old Red Lion Pub on Lincoln Avenue was housed in an ancient, decrepit, allegedly haunted, and utterly charming wood frame building. The floor was so uneven that if you dropped a dozen marbles smack in the middle of the barroom, no two would end up in the same corner. The building, to which many drinkers attributed the bar’s ineffable charm, finally had to come down. After a hiatus of several years, owner Colin Cordwell has built the Platonic ideal of a thinking drinker’s pub, a sane sanctuary in bro-and-trixie-ridden Lincoln Park. The Red Lion’s beautiful space is lined with Cordwell’s vast collection of art, books and artifacts. Unmatched raconteur Cordwell again presides over endless erudite discussions of everything from the Boer War to the Cubs. The Red Lion spirit thrives, even in its clean new space.
