HOMOlatte
Queer cabaret is specified, rather than gay cabaret, because…well, let’s face it, gay cabaret is basically redundant. HOMOlatte, which has been hosted by Scott Free for fifteen years at various venues around town, is a twice-monthly revue that focuses specifically on gay artists, gay art and gay issues. It’s not so much political as collegial, and Free is a very welcoming host—not to mention an engaging singer-songwriter. Musically, the revue’s quality can vary; there’s a lot of spoken-word material in the average show as well. But there’s nothing else like it in town, and by now it’s a venerable institution… though it retains its scrappy, counterculture charm.
