Uptown Uprising
A standout for its actions in service of the homeless Tent City at the Wilson viaduct, Uptown Uprising has been tireless in its attempts to stop the persecution of the homeless under the leadership of pro-development Alderman James Cappleman, whose policies have led to the systematic harassment of the homeless in the area by law enforcement. The litany of scabrous tactics has included ticketing and threats of arrest, even after court rulings deemed such approaches illegal under the Constitution. As a force to reckon with in the fight for equal treatment for those in poverty, Uptown Uprising is doing some of the most important social service work in the city of Chicago.
