Oaxacan Tamale
The Oaxaca tamale stand at the Maxwell Street Market is the best tamale in the world. This is a Mexican tamale, and there are tamales in other Latin American countries, but this is the best. A masa square, filled with pork or chicken, cooked in a banana leaf, served with crema and salsa verde or adobo sauce. It’s available only when the market is open (Sundays from around 7am to 3pm, on Desplaines Avenue from Roosevelt to around Harrison). It costs three bucks. It’s the best tamale in the world.
No address, phone or website: you have to go to Maxwell Street Market and look for it
