Moraine Hills State Park
Why are so many of your friends moving out west? It could be the fact we have a broke state, and a corrupt city government where funds for special needs children are being cut while the former head of the Chicago Public Schools helped herself to hundreds of thousands of dollars. It may also be that, besides the Indiana Dunes, there is really no non-urban place to hike, kayak, or camp within 100 miles. Unknown to many Chicagoans, however, Moraine Hills State Park features a pristine glacier lake, bike trails, a wetland/bog, and traces of Native American habitat going back to 4000 B.C. a little over an hour’s drive away.
