Schaller’s Pump got its name in part because, during Prohibition, beer was brewed next door and pumped into the saloon so as to avoid detection by the boys in blue. The place looks like it was frozen in time since before the repeal of the Volstead Act, so it’s a little beat-up but old-school and comfy. Jack Schaller, who lived above the bar, passed away at ninety-two last May, but the place is still going, and for cold cans and warm memories, Schaller’s Pump is still very much alive.
