Rarely mentioned are neighborhood joints like The Drinkingbird that are, in fact, far past adequate. Retro interior, dim red lights, long bar, tufted leather booths in back, a pool table, weekly specials—all positive signifiers of a good time in Chicago. Tack on superior bar snacks like a spud-free olive-stuffed tot and first-rate cocktails made by relevant bartenders to pristine results, sans Kold-Draft, and that, folks, is a bar worth your bottom and dollars.
