In Rosemont, Hofbräuhaus serves up some solid German food, including a superbly simple and satisfying app of radishes and buttered bread. Traditional Austrian white sausages are served in a pot of hot water, just as they are in Munich. Then, after dinner, your serving lady comes around with a long serving paddle holding various bitters… and then asks you sweetly if you’d like a spanking. It’s up to you, and there’s no shame in saying no, though most everyone in this raucous beer hall accepts their punishment.
