After salvaging all the bricks from the demolished St. Laurence Church in Grand Crossing, Place Lab rescued St. Laurence Elementary, a Catholic primary school, also slated for demolition. In partnership with South Shore Fine Arts Academy, the Board Up demonstration project engaged area students in reimagining the space, using pattern-making as a lens to view culture and identity. Eyes are windows to the soul, and the window artworks, painted in bold shapes and colors, convey design savvy and exuberant confidence in the future of the building and the community.
