While Saint Lou’s Assembly has wowed many with its modern take on the downtown cafeteria, Ronny’s high green leather booths, celebrity wall with photos from Frank, Dean and Richard J. and Richard M. Daley, make it definitely old Chicago. As for the food, you can get smothered pork chops, perch, salmon, rib tips, and other dinners with two sides (they have great mac and cheese) and a salad for about $12. Then there is always the $8 steak dinner, and the ever-present giant vase of fruit-filled lemonade punch, which will run $3 for a large. In business since 1963, Ronnie’s has undergone several changes in location, but has always been in the Loop. The most recent incarnation is literally connected to the Thompson Center; about ten feet from the Blue Line turnstiles.
