Punk Rock Karaoke Chicago
There’s all kinds of karaoke these days, but none also manages to fight racism, fascism and helps the needy like Punk Rock Karaoke. Brainchild of Danielle Villarreal, PRK outings are always organized around an outreach and support effort, whether to raise funds for the medical bills of a protester stabbed by neo-Nazis at a white supremacist rally, helping source bikes for disadvantaged kids through the annual Cats and Rats Bike Drive, or standing up for imprisoned LGBTQ people, most recently including Kara Wild, jailed for protesting in France. It’s a good reason to scream your guts out to a catalog of more than 500 songs, many custom recorded at Mystery Street Recording Studio, “a worker-owned union studio in Chicago.”
