The chance to make better, bigger lakefront mistakes
No one’s laying odds yet on what scale mistakes could be made in the future, but there are endless opportunities for second-term Rahm to screw up spectacularly. Schools? Law enforcement? A ready distraction would be to build on the failed plans for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, now hovering above San Francisco for a possible future landing. The lakefront, its parking lots and, yes, McCormick Place, still are ripe for almighty disfigurement, TIF revenue displacement or simple controversy that will go nowhere, nowhere at all, except in the production of prodigious smoke to bounce off our wealth of civic mirrors.
