It’s outright insane to think how this performance series has been produced to such a high degree of consistent quality, with such a high degree of affection between the audience and its organizers, every week since 2011. A Chicago treasure, the event is DJed by Ariel Zetina and Danny LeRoy to an always-packed house, and organized and co-curated by a rotating roster of co-hosts that includes Jane Beachy, Joe Varisco, Will Von Vogt and Bindu Poroori and the occasional guest curator, including dance maven and self-styled scholar, Zac Whittenburg. Taking place every Monday night at Beauty Bar on Chicago Avenue, the lineup has showcased every imaginable type of performance, from dance to uke sing-along, to…well, just go check it out. It happens every. Damn. Week. As if they didn’t have enough to do, the crew often can be found traveling the Salonathon program around the city to places like the University of Chicago’s Performance Lab, Steppenwolf Theatre, or wherever their nose takes them. Not to be missed.
