Joshua Ishmon is having a well-earned good year. Longtime member and artistic director of Deeply Rooted dance company and its special Emerging Choreographer’s Showcase at the Old Town School of Folk Music, Ishmon has showcased new work across town and was a 2017 recipient of the exclusive Chicago Dancemaker Laboratory Artists Awards. Previously more a figure behind the scenes and onstage only at select performances, the dance artist has by sheer dint of talent broken out into the public eye.
