The Gentrification of Wrigleyville
What’s the first thing an organization has to do after waiting 108 years to win a World Series? Gentrify, of course. The Cubs did their best showing the world what winning is supposed to look like. Looking less and less like a neighborhood, Wrigley this baseball season took on not just a new look (the plaza, “The Park,” the new Starbucks, the new Green City Market, the still-building Hotel Zachary, etc.), but a new, less Wrigley-like feel. Now the people of Wrigleyville have begun to feel how the people from outside of Wrigleyville have felt for years when coming to watch the Cubs.
