Tourists flock to Garrett Popcorn (multiple locations in Chicago and in other cities) because they heard they can buy giant tins of CaramelCrisp, CheeseCorn and mixed popcorns. Recently, an episode of L.A.-based HBO show “Insecure” featured Molly (Yvonne Orji) visiting a Chicago business associate, Quentin (real-life Chicagoan LilRel Howery), who offers her “Buttery Ranch and CaramelCrisp” popcorn. At first she hesitates, but decides she likes it enough to bring some back to L.A., to her lover, who is equally skeptical. “Trust me,” she says, as they chomp on the popcorn, with Garrett’s signature bag in full product-placement glory. Not that Garrett needed more press, but it shows even finicky Los Angelenos can love the stuff.
