“Brown Girls”
It’s a bit ironic that the Chicago’s indie wonder “Brown Girls” was picked up by HBO for development toward a new series. After all, Lena Dunham’s “Girls” skewed its long run through a self-centered lack of diversity. But it would be wrong to reduce “Brown Girls” to a corrective of white-girl blind spots, and also a massive category error to overlook the powerful, thoughtful, considerate investigation into the intimate lives of those othered by the industry that passed over the program for the Emmy it was nominated for.
