Behind the scenes at ever-packed, ever-rocking Big Star, music has been up there with the roadhouse elements that only begin with tacos and whisky. Cueing up Buck Rogers or Gram Parsons or Townes Van Zandt on the turntable is a comforting everyday feature. The super-successful Wicker Park destination launched an in-house record label in late summer: “We’re all about sourcing and playing rare vinyl, as well as giving the artists we love a place to share their music,” they wrote in a press release. Reportedly years in the planning, the label will release current artists as well as rerelease favorite forgotten or overlooked acts. The first release, Quarter Mile Thunder’s seven-song “Bucking The Tiger” is available for digital download at Bandcamp. Limited-edition vinyl will be available behind the counter and at Reckless Records, natch.
