Allen Moore appeared in recent years operating collaboratively on the fringes with a variety of small to mid-scale Chicago arts groups, including Comfort Station, ACRE and Experimental Sound Studio. And it’s in that throughline between music and visual art that Moore has discovered his niche. Moore’s crafting of sculptural objects and wall-hanging surface assemblages, often using LPs fused in surfaces of shining graphite, interrogates his own childhood experience, blackness, groove and the transformative power of auditory environments simultaneously. Sometimes performing as DJ at his own exhibits, Moore remixes the visuality of the experience with a sound art dimension, bringing the two together in ways both innovative and jarring.
