Haymarket Books
Scoring an impressive string of publishing victories , bookended by sponsoring a visit from Noam Chomsky on the eve of last year’s presidential election that drew international attention and briefly helped reframe the debate, Haymarket Books has become a harbor for respected, often radical lefty titles from Bill Ayers, Rebecca Solnit and a panoply of thinkers, activists and cultural critics. And, it appears, it’s here to stay. After facing down a challenge from some of its Buena Park neighbors, armed with a generous grant from the Lannan Foundation, the press finally got its mansion home approved for rezoning. The ground floor will be a reading room, clearing the runway for Haymarket to continue its mission to publish challenging, thought-provoking work into the foreseeable future.
