The Triumph of Fame by Marie-Caroline Hominal at Defibrillator
If it wasn’t clear to art enthusiasts the value of Defibrillator Performance Art Gallery in bringing innovative talent from around the planet to Chicago, then you’re not paying attention. An international port of call for those at the cutting edge of participatory, performative work, with visits this year from the likes of Frank Willens and Marie-Caroline Hominal, Defibrillator competes with anything that might be happening on the MCA Stage. Orders of magnitude separate the two of course, but Hominal’s innovative one-on-one performance this year was special, breathlessly exploring intimacy, audience, history, myth and sexuality in a way few dare. Risky, fearless, powerful.
